The
fundamental reason this classification exists is to perform skilled plumbing
work installing, repairing and maintaining water and waste systems in City of Montgomery
facilities. Employees in this class are
responsible for laying out work details, assigning duties and inspecting the
work of a Plumber I or Service Maintenance Workers. In addition to supervising, the incumbent
performs plumbing tasks. Assignments are
made by written or oral instructions.
The work responsibilities of this classification are: troubleshooting
and repairing plumbing and/or fixtures; supervising and training Plumber Is
(i.e., serving as crew leader); installing new plumbing (water and waste
systems) in small-scale construction projects and renovations (parks, ball
fields, break rooms, etc.); replacing/installing new plumbing fixtures; and
maintaining City fountains and swimming pools. Daily supervision is received from the Mechanical
Trades Supervisor. On large projects, supervision may be received on the job
site by a Plumber III.
Three (3)
years of experience in installing, maintaining and repairing plumbing systems.
NOTE:
Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite
knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.
Must possess and maintain a valid Alabama driver's license. Must be willing to work nights, weekends and holidays and be on call 24 hours as needed.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES: Physical abilities to include digging, walking, climbing, lifting objects over 50 pounds assisted and unassisted, squatting, bending and crawling as needed to perform installations, repairs and maintenance of plumbing systems in City buildings and facilities.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Works outside for long periods of time in small confined spaces, on unstable ground, in high areas or deep underground spaces.
