The fundamental reason this position exists is
to operate sweeper and flusher trucks. The
primary work responsibilities of this classification include: performing
maintenance activities on the sweeper truck; performing maintenance activities
on the flusher truck, operating the sweeper truck following supervisors’
directions and the operator’s manual; and operating the flusher truck following
supervisors’ directions and the operator’s manual. Employees drive and operate
the vehicles using the control panel with the purpose of cleaning and washing
streets and parking areas. Employees
operate other large vehicles when on special assignment. Incumbents in this
position report to the Refuse Collection Manager.
One (1) year of experience
operating equipment such as road construction power brooms, open-body trucks,
and street sweepers. Must possess and maintain a valid Alabama Commercial
Driver’s License (CDL) Class B to drive and operate equipment used for the
maintenance of Montgomery city streets.
Must possess a Tanker Endorsement for the operation of the Flusher
Truck.
NOTE: Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite
knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.
Must work overtime, nights,
weekends and holidays as needed. Must possess and maintain an insurable
driving record.
WORKING
CONDITIONS: Work is performed in a variety of weather
conditions with exposure to elements to include heat, cold, rain and dust.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES: Physical ability to stand, stoop,
bend, or kneel for periods up to 15 minutes as needed to inspect equipment or
perform preventive maintenance on equipment. Physical
ability to sit for extended periods of time, up to 2 hours, in order to operate
equipment. Physical
ability to operate equipment from an enclosed cab while being exposed to hot
and cold temperatures, dust and dirt. Physical
ability to lift up to 75 pounds in order to lift gutter brooms.
