The fundamental reason this job exists is to operate heavy automotive equipment used for the Parks and Recreation Department for the City of Montgomery. Duties include basic maintenance on equipment, and driving and operating equipment. Employees operate a variety of equipment such as backhoes, farm tractors, and dump trucks. Normally work is performed on one assigned type of equipment, though the employee may be required to operate other pieces of heavy equipment. The majority of the Heavy Equipment Operator I's time is spent on large-sized equipment such as a backhoe. They typically work independently without a supervisor on location. The supervisor will inspect work as the project progresses. The employee is supervised by the District Parks Maintenance Supervisor.
One year of experience in the operation of heavy equipment to include backhoes, tractors, and dump trucks or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be
considered.
Heavy Equipment Operator I's must be willing to work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the outdoor elements. They are required to travel across rough, uneven or rocky surfaces at the various work sites. Qualified applicants must have a Class A or B Commercial Driver's License.
