The fundamental reason this
position exists is to manage the Electronics Division of the Traffic
Engineering Department. Work involves
overseeing the installation, maintenance and repair of electronic traffic
control devices as well as monitoring, analyzing, and adjusting the ITS
infrastructure for maximum effectiveness.
Primary work responsibilities may include: performing
essential administrative duties; supervising employees; managing the operations and maintenance of the Traffic
Management Center; managing the installation, repair, and maintenance of
electronic control devices and supporting equipment; overseeing the programming
of traffic control equipment; and overseeing the programming and maintenance of
various servers and corresponding software. Work is performed with considerable
independence of judgment and initiative. The ITS Manager reports to the
Director of Traffic Engineering.
Associate’s degree in
Electronics or Electronics Engineering Technology, two (2) years of supervisory
experience, and five (5) years of experience installing, repairing, and
maintaining traffic signals, electronics, radio transmitting/receiving
equipment, or fiber optics to include experience maintaining wireless
communication networks, computerized communications, or intelligent
transportation systems or devises.
Must
have and maintain an IMSA (International Municipal Signal Association) Level I
Certificate in Traffic Signal.
NOTE: Qualifying education, training and experience that provide
the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be
considered.
Must have (or obtain within
12 months of employment) and maintain an IMSA (International Municipal Signal
Association) Level II Certificate in Traffic Signal. Must possess and maintain a valid Alabama
Driver's License and insurable driving record. Must be willing to be on-call
and standby duty for emergencies and special events.
