The fundamental reason this
classification exists is to provide expert library support to librarians and
branches throughout the library system.
Assistant IIs are assigned to a specific branch or division such as
Extension Services or Technical Services as their primary responsibility;
however, they are also utilized to fill staff shortages throughout the library
system. Major work responsibilities may
include: performing collection maintenance activities, providing support to
small libraries during staffing shortages, performing circulation duties,
serving patrons and the public, maintaining facilities, and performing miscellaneous
duties. Library Assistant IIs differ
from Library Assistant Is in that they are expected to have a greater degree of
knowledge as needed to fill in at branches with staff shortages or briefly
manage a small branch in the absence of a librarian. Library Assistant IIs differ from Librarians
in that Library Assistant IIs are not responsible for programming. Library Assistant IIs work under the
supervision of a Librarian.an.
High school diploma or GED and one year of full-time,
technical library experience at the level of a library assistant which includes
shelving and shifting books, assisting patrons with directions or general
library services, checking books in and out, collecting fines and fees,
cataloging and using an automated library computer system.

training, and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills, and
abilities to perform the job will be considered.
