The
fundamental reason that this classification exists is to develop and manage the
library=s overall
collection which includes selecting, acquiring, cataloging, and processing new
material. Major work responsibilities
include developing and managing the library system=s collection;
overseeing or
supervising the selection and acquisition of library materials; projecting
and monitoring collection spending;
planning, overseeing and
directing staff activities;
and managing the cataloging and
processing of new materials. Supervision is exercised over
professional, clerical, and para-professional staff. The incumbent has
considerable latitude in the application of professional practices in the
assigned area of responsibility. The Collection
Development Librarian reports to the Assistant Director City-County Library.
Master=s degree in Library Science
from a college or university accredited by the American Library
Association. Three (3) years of
progressively responsible and recent experience as a collection development
librarian. One (1) year of experience
supervising library professionals, para-professionals, and clerks.
