The reason the position exists,
the work responsibilities, who the position reports to and any other necessary

This is an administrative position directing the planning and
implementation of the Library’s technology plan. The employee is responsible
for the overall management and direction of library-based systems, internal
networks, and electronic resources. The work responsibilities include, managing the automated system and related
technology; managing and monitoring the daily use of technologies, networks and
components systems; liaison with the City/County representatives and vendors; supervising
technology department staff; developing, designing, and implementing the
Library’s technology plan; and coordinating activities of users. The job is performed with considerable
independence requiring judgment in resolving the Library IT issues and needs. Supervision is received under the
direction of the Library Director.r.
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Information
Systems or related degree and four (4) years of experience managing an
automation system of multiple work stations involving multiple locations and or
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Information Systems or related degree and
certified as a Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) or a Master’s
Degree in Library Information Science from an American Library Association
accredited library program and two (2) years of experience managing an
automation system of multiple work stations involving multiple locations. A Master’s Degree in Computer Information
Systems or related degree, a Microsoft A+ Certification or other professional
certifications, and supervisory experience are preferred.
NOTE: Qualifying education, training and experience
that provide the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job
will be considered.
Must possess a valid Alabama
driver’s license as needed to travel to library sites to coordinate
installation of hardware and software and to resolve computer problems.
