The fundamental reason this classification exists is teach recreational gymnastics and/or cheer to children preschool aged and up.
The essential function is: provides instruction and supervision to beginning and intermediate recreational gymnastics and cheer classes. Although incumbents may initially be assigned to specific programs, these assignments may change as the needs of the facility change. The Recreation Instructor series differs from the Recreation Leader series in that the Recreation Instructors are responsible for training and development of recreational level gymnastics/cheer skills while the Recreation Leaders are responsible for training and development of more complex, competition-level gymnastics/cheer skills. The Recreation Instructor II differs from the Instructor I level in that the Instructor II is responsible for assisting both Instructor Is and students in the training and development of beginning, intermediate, and advanced recreational skills while the Instructor I is responsible for the training and development of students only. Incumbents work independently as well as with other training staff; guidance and direction is received from the Recreation Leader IIs while supervision is provided by the Gymnastics Supervisor.
Must complete USAG's 100: Fundamentals of Gymnastics Instruction course within six month probationary period. Must possess a valid Alabama's driver's license. Must be available to attend program-related performances and events which may include after hours and weekends. Must be able to work irregular hours and on weekends for performances.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES: This position requires the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time, hand eye coordination, spotting and lifting athletes of various ages and sizes, and fine manipulation skills to perform recreation training, instruction, and coaching.
