The fundamental reason this classification exists is to coordinate, plan and implement transportation programs for special populations in the city of Montgomery. The employee will also supervise staff and volunteers during ongoing activities.
The essential functions of this class are: plans, coordinates and implements daily general recreation programs for individuals with disabilities; plans, coordinates and implements transportation and transports individuals with disabilities to and from the Therapeutic Recreation Center and out of town trips; coordinates and supervises the activities of Recreation Aides and volunteers; maintains daily and weekly records, reports, forms, equipment, materials and supplies used for program activity. The Recreation Leader I reports to the Recreation Leader II.
High school diploma or G.E.D. and one year of experience in an organized recreational program working with individuals with disabilities; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Preference may be given to individuals with a valid Commercial Driver's License.
NOTE: Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.
Must be willing to work flexible hours, evenings and weekends. Employment is conditioned upon applicants acquiring and maintaining a commercial driver's license (CDL) in accordance with the provisions of the Commercial Motor Vehicle Safety Act of 1986 and providing a Motor Vehicle Records (MVR) from the Department of Public Safety as proof of an insurable driving record. CDL must be obtained within six (6) months of employment.
