The fundamental reason this classification exists is to perform skilled recreation work involving the organization and instruction of various age level groups in arts, crafts and ceramics. Instructs classes in different techniques in arts, crafts and ceramics. Receives instructions on the scheduling of classes and on course content from supervisor, but employee must exercise independent judgment in the application of specialized knowledge and techniques in the conduct of the work.
Essential functions are: purchases and maintains adequate supplies for arts, crafts and ceramic classes and maintains record of income and expenses; plans, organizes and conducts a well-rounded arts, crafts and ceramics program for all age groups; and contributes to the department objectives by accepting additional assignments. Employee in this classification reports to the Community Center Director III.
High school diploma or GED certificate. One year of experience working in Arts/Crafts and/or Ceramics and one year of experience in an instructing capacity or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be physically able to lift objects or weights up to 30 1bs. as needed to prepare green ware for storage or sale. Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered. Must be physically able to stoop, bend and lift overhead as needed to assist and instruct with various arts, crafts and ceramics projects. Must have a valid Alabama Driver's license and insurance as needed to drive personal vehicle to pick up supplies. Ability to work evenings and weekends as needed to instruct programs and/or assist with special events.
