The
fundamental reason this classification exists is to perform skilled recreation
work assisting the Therapeutic Creative Arts Coordinator in the organization
and instruction of creative arts activities for special populations of various
age level groups. Examples of special populations include individuals with
hearing and visual impairments, mentally and physically challenged and
individuals with strokes. Employees in
this classification receive instructions on the scheduling of classes and on
course content from the supervisor, but must exercise independent judgment in
the application of specialized knowledge and techniques in the conduct of the
work. The essential functions are:
assists in planning and implementing arts and crafts programs for individuals
with disabilities (children and adults) and wellness programs adult groups;
coordinates and supervises the activities of recreation aide and volunteers;
assists in coordinating and coaching the
drama team; assists in coordinating therapeutic recreation center’s garden club
(vegetable and herbs garden) and green house;
assists in coordinating the stroke support group; and accepts additional
assignments to achieve the overall objective of the Therapeutic Recreation
Center. Employee in this classification
reports to the Therapeutic Creative Arts Coordinator.
High School Diploma
or G.E.D. equivalent and one (1) year of experience working in Arts and Crafts
for individuals with disabilities.
A
Bachelor’s degree in Recreational Therapy is preferred.
NOTE: Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.
Must
be physically able to stoop, bend and lift overhead as needed to assist and
instruct with various creative arts. Must be able to work flexible schedules,
depending on program needs including working nights and weekends and shifting
assignment as program needs change. Employment is
conditioned upon applicants acquiring and maintaining a commercial driver's
license (CDL) B
(Passenger Endorsement) and insurable driving record. CDL must be obtained within six (6) months of
employment.
