The
fundamental reason this classification exists is provide advanced, competition
level gymnastics training and development to girls and boys. Although incumbents may initially be assigned
to specific teams/programs, these assignments may change as the needs of the
facility change. The primary work
responsibilities of this position are: coaches
the boys and/or girls gymnastics optional teams using informational sources; trains
others in the instruction of compulsory team programs and general gymnastic
classes for boys and girls using informational sources; oversees the team
programs for competition using sources; coordinates and oversees coaches’ travel
to competitions and performances; and performs various administrative and
gymnastic related duties. The Gymnastics Recreation Leader II differs from the
Gymnastics Recreation Leader I in that the II level is responsible for more
advanced training and development of gymnastics skills and assists the
Gymnastics Supervisor with facility operations while the I level is responsible
for the training and development of beginning and intermediate skills. Incumbents work as a team with other
recreation leaders and special pay instructors who are all supervised by the
Gymnastics Supervisor.
High school
diploma or G.E.D. equivalency and two (2) years of experience teaching and/or
coaching competitive gymnastics for regional and/or national qualifiers.
PREFERENCE STATEMENT: Regional or national qualifier experience in the past eight (8) years is preferred.
NOTE: Qualifying
education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills
and abilities to perform the job will be considered.
Must possess a valid Alabama’s
driver’s license as needed to travel to meets.
Must be available to attend all program related competitions and
performances which may include after hours and weekends. Must be able to work irregular hours and on
weekends for competitions and performances.
Must be registered and maintain registration with the USAG (USA
Gymnastics) and receive and maintain the Safety Certification within the
probationary period.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES: Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time,
hand eye coordination, spotting and lifting athletes of various ages and sizes,
with physical manipulation of skills for recreation training, instruction, and
coaching.
