The fundamental reason this classification exists is to plan, organize, and direct educational programs related to the Museum’s galleries and studios. This is professional museum work requiring the independent application of basic communication techniques used in mid-size museum programs. The essential functions are: Designs and implements programs for Youth (preK-12) and Family audiences; Develops and coordinates studio curriculum for youth and adults, connected to the Museum’s exhibitions and collections; Maintains and prepares the two studios and future outdoor studio; Curates exhibitions of student artwork to be held in the ARTWORKS Corridor gallery and identifies and coordinates appropriate Jury; Participates in tours, teacher workshop development, and training and supervising volunteers and docents; Contributes to the department objectives by accepting additional assignments and performing administrative duties.  The Museum Curator II reports to the Museum Curator III, Curator of Education.

Graduation from a four-year college or university with Bachelor’s  Degree in Art Education, Museum Studies, Art History, Design, Studio Art or related field. Two (2) years of education experience in a museum, non-profit, or school.

Ability to lift up to 25 pounds unassisted as needed to move and lift boxes of materials and supplies; ability to climb a five-step ladder, reach, stoop, bend, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Must have and maintain a valid Alabama driver’s license as needed to travel to local agencies or businesses. Must be willing to work evenings and weekends, as needed by Museum.
