The
fundamental reason this classification exists is to develop, implement and
monitor a comprehensive Zoo security program designed to protect and safeguard
the facility and its collections and provide a safe environment for visitors
and staff. The work responsibilities
are: supervising two or more full-time employees of the Zoo security staff, managing security and protection of
visitors, property, and animals of the Montgomery Zoo, performing customer service
and administrative duties, and serving as Zoo liaison with Police, Fire, alarm
companies, security contractors and other departments and agencies involved in
the protection and safety of the facility; and oversee the observation and assistance with animal
care including feeding, of the live animal collections of the zoo. The Zoo Security Supervisor reports to
the Deputy Zoo Director and the Zoo Director.
High School diploma or G.E.D. and
five years of experience in security work, protecting persons and property.
Must be willing to submit to a thorough background investigation. Must be willing to patrol and secure zoo property in all types of weather and ground conditions. Must be willing to work an assigned shift. Must be willing to work holidays, weekends, nights, and on-call duty as needed. Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Alabama driver’s license and insurable driving record to drive city vehicles within sixty days of employment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to walk, stand, and remain alert for the duration of the assigned shift as needed to perform security duties and patrol assigned areas. Must be able to climb stairs and a ladder at a height of 14 feet as needed to perform inspections of the interior and exterior of the facility. Must be willing to work outside as needed to perform security duties. Must be able to tolerate working under difficult conditions to include extreme heat and cold. Must be able to meet deadlines as needed to care for animal collection, maintain exhibits and security needs of the Zoo. Must be able to stoop, climb, walk, run and crawl. Must be able to lift heavy objects such as food bundles, hay, or food bags weighing up to 60 pounds unassisted.
