The
fundamental reason that this position exists is to manage the conservation and
enrichment programs of the Montgomery Zoo and improve the management of animal
care as well as serve as the Elephant Manager. Major work functions include:
leading and monitoring the Zoo’s efforts to preserve specific animal groups;
leading the Zoo’s and the Mann Museum’s
efforts to educate people about the conservation as it pertains to the animal
population; managing the behavioral enrichment and animal welfare programs at the
Zoo; managing the overall conservation and enrichment program; and supervising
the animal care staff in the delivery of animal care services. This
classification reports to the General Curator (Zoo).
Bachelor’s
degree from an accredited university or college in zoology, biology, animal
science, or a closely related field. Three (3) years of experience in the
direct supervision of a zoo’s conservation program or one (1) year of
experience with an Association of Zoos and Aquariums conservation program.
Experience must be obtained within the past five years.
NOTE:
Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite
knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.
Will
be required to work on some weekends and holidays. May occasionally be required
to work over-time hours. Will occasionally be required to act in the place of
the General Curator (Zoo).
