The fundamental reason this position exists is
to assist in the development and implementation of outreach strategies for a
city department. The work
responsibilities are: conceives, develops,
and implements content ideas and programs; performs social media public relations and marketing duties; assists
in planning and administering the department’s various outreach events; and performs
additional miscellaneous and administrative duties. The incumbent is required
to stay abreast of all department projects and programs in order to communicate
that information to clients in person and via social media. The incumbent may have access to sensitive
and confidential information regarding negotiations between clients and the
City regarding projects. The incumbent
will have regular contact with department personnel and citizens. Errors in providing information and/or planning
and administering events could result in the public misunderstanding the
department’s function and quality of service.
Bachelor’s
degree in communication, journalism, marketing, or public relations.
NOTE: Qualifying
education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills
and abilities to perform the job will be considered.
Must possess a valid Alabama driver’s license
and insurable driving record as needed to operate City vehicles. Must be able to work overtime, nights,
weekends, and holidays as needed to cover special events, after hour functions,
and emergency situations.
