The fundamental reason this position exists is
to direct and supervise all functions of the Building Maintenance Department. The
Building Maintenance Department is responsible for repairing and maintaining
all city-owned buildings and properties as well as directing and prioritizing
maintenance, renovation, and construction projects. The major work
responsibilities include: overseeing the activities of the Building Maintenance
Department; developing short- and long-range plans; managing renovations, new
construction, and additional special projects; preparing and monitoring the
operating budget; supervising management-level employees; and performing
administrative duties. The Director of Building
Management performs the job with considerable independent judgment and
initiative. Supervision is exercised over department employees through
subordinate supervisors. The Director of Building Maintenance is a
department head position and reports directly to the Director of General
Services.
Bachelor’s Degree in Construction
Management, Building Science, Public Administration, Business Administration,
or closely related field and five (5) years of building maintenance and
construction managerial and supervisory experience including policy and
procedure administration.
