The fundamental reason this position exists is to respond to fire rescue or medical emergencies as needed or assigned. Duties include performing paramedic work and to assisting in firefighting duty for a fire rescue company during an assigned shift. Work is performed under the general regulations of the department and the direction of a superior officer. Work duties include responding to on-scene emergency operations, proper maintenance of apparatus and equipment, performing basic firefighting duties under the direction of the Incident Commander and performing paramedic operations until relieved by a superior paramedic officer or higher medical authority. A Firefighter/Paramedic reports to the Lieutenant on administrative or medical operations.
Promotional must have completed MFD Fire Academy and completed Fire Fighter I/II certification and must have current State of Alabama EMT III Paramedic License.
Open Competitive Must have completed Firefighter I/II certification at a Fire Academy that meets the Alabama State Fire College Pro Board Standards and at least three (3) years’ experience as a paid full-time Firefighter in a paid/career Fire Department. Volunteer Firefighter experience will not be accepted. Must have current State of Alabama EMT III Paramedic License.
Qualified applicants must submit to a thorough background check. Hired employees will be required to complete an orientation/training program.
