The
fundamental reason this classification exists is to provide armed security and
protection to employees, visitors, and property while enforcing the security
rules and regulations. Primary work
responsibilities include: patrolling buildings, structures, and/or grounds; investigating
and taking appropriate action; completing and submitting written work orders;
and interacting with patrons, visitors and staff members. The Armed Security Officer
classification differs from the Security Officer, Zoo Security Officer and Museum
Security Officer classifications in that the Armed Security Officer is
responsible for providing armed security and protection for the City Hall Administration.
The Armed Security Officer classification receives limited supervision and
reports to the Chief of Staff’s Office.
High school diploma or GED and one (1) year
of experience in armed security work, protecting persons and property.
NOTE: Qualifying education, training, and
experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities to
perform the job will be considered.
Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license
and an insurable driving record in order to drive city vehicles for work
assignments. Must submit to a background
check and drug test due to the nature of the position. Must have an Alabama
pistol permit. Work requires evening hours due to city council meetings and
various commission/board meetings. Must
be willing to work outside, on weekends and holidays as needed for special
events.
