The Probate Staff Attorney serves as the primary
legal advisor to the Probate Judge. The Probate Staff Attorney works in
conjunction with outside counsel, when necessary, to provide direct legal
advice and counsel to the Probate Judge. This position reports directly to the
Probate Judge. The work required can be very challenging, demanding depending
on the issue, parties, and the complexity and urgency of the matter at hand. Work
responsibilities will include establishing new court rules for the development
and implementation of an electronic filing and case management court system,
providing legal advice and counsel to the Probate Judge and Chief Clerk on
legal matters, managing and supervising the Probate Court staff, hearing and
making preliminary and final rulings on probate court cases, drafting and
reviewing legal documents, serving as a liaison between the Probate Court and
mental health, and performing other tasks as assigned and delegated by the
Probate Judge.
A law degree from a recognized law school, be licensed to practice law in the State of Alabama, and have five (5) years of legal experience following law school. Prior probate law experience preferred.
