The fundamental reason this classification exists is to oversee the detailed operations of the accounting process. This is professional level accounting work in establishing, maintaining, and auditing accounts. Primary work responsibilities include: overseeing and participating in the financial accounting function of all funds; overseeing the workflow and work performance of two or more employees; processing all cash receipts and cash disbursements; monitoring and preparing various financial statements; preparing and reviewing tax-related reports and forms; assisting the Finance Director in the preparation of the County’s annual budget; serving as the Finance Division’s technical resource contact regarding financial software; and assisting the Finance Director in daily operations of the department. The employee works with considerable freedom of action in the more technical aspects of the work, but confers with and receives instructions from the Finance Director on matters of policy and deviations from established procedures. The employee reports directly to the Finance Director.
Bachelor’s degree in accounting and five (5) years of progressively responsible accounting and financial management experience to include governmental fund accounting, budget analysis, and financial statement preparation. Must have at least two years of supervisory experience.
