The reason this
position exists is to be the legal advisor to the Montgomery County
Commission, the County Administrator, County Department Heads, and other
governmental subdivisions and constitutional officers in all matters of civil
law relating to Montgomery County. The General Counsel shall attend all
meetings of the Montgomery County Commission unless otherwise directed. The General
Counsel may represent the County in all Courts in the State of Alabama and
Federal Courts when necessary to do so. Upon request, the General Counsel shall
assist all constitutional officers and department heads of Montgomery County
government concerning the general operation of their departments with regard to
such legal matters as they shall need, including representation not otherwise
provided.
The General Counsel shall draft and/or
review such documents, ordinances, contracts, resolutions, bids, proposed legislation
and such other documents as may be necessary or required and shall make such
certifications as from time to time may be required. The General Counsel shall
research points of law, as necessary, and shall perform such other duties as
may be assigned by the County Administrator. The General Counsel shall report to the County
Administrator.
Must be a member in good standing of the
Alabama State Bar. Must have five (5)
years of experience in administrative/governmental law, ethics law, and/or
public works law.
