The fundamental reason this position exists
is to serve and protect the citizens of Montgomery County. The Major provides
administrative assistance to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office’s upper
management staff. Major work responsibilities include: developing short- and long-range
strategic plans; developing/reviewing administrative documents; overseeing the
technical and non-technical duties; overseeing the financial management for the
MCSO; overseeing the purchase of goods and services; managing the training
program; performing outreach, special events, and public relations
activities; overseeing the archiving or
warehousing of documents and materials, and performing a variety of
administrative duties. Independent judgment
and considerable discretion must be exercised in performing duties and making
decisions. Considerable tact and
firmness are required in dealing with the public. The Major classification reports to the
Assistant Chief Deputy or Chief Deputy.
As of the closing date, all Deputy Sheriff
Captains in the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office who have completed one (1)
year of service within the department as a Deputy Sheriff Captain dating from
the day of their appointment to Captain are eligible to compete in the process.
