The Assistant
Director provides administrative support to the Detention Director and oversees
the daily operations of the Montgomery County Detention Facility. The incumbent is responsible for developing
and monitoring facility policies and procedures, directly supervising Captains
and Lieutenants, indirectly supervising Sergeants, and Officers, overseeing
facility operations, investigating, and resolving complaints, preparing and
monitoring the facility’s budget, acting as a liaison between the inmates and
the officers and between the facility and the court and legal systems, and
helping ensure the safety of staff and inmates.
The Assistant Director receives minimal supervision in the form of work
product review. Assignments are made by
the Director in the form of concepts or ideas.
The incumbent is responsible for devising methods and practices and for
the administration of the final concept or idea. Errors in judgment on the part of the
incumbent could result in lawsuit and/or loss of safety and/or life by
personnel and inmates.
Bachelor’s degree in
criminal justice, public safety administration or a closely related field and two
(2) years of correctional supervisory/management experience at the level of
shift commander (i.e., lieutenant) or higher.
