Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this position exists is to cook and prepare meals for detainees at the Montgomery County Youth Facility.  Cooks employed at this facility must be available to work a rotating shift that prepares meals seven days a week to include nights, weekends, and holidays. The work responsibilities of the position are: cooks and serves meals for detainees; cleans and maintains kitchen and dining area; and maintains documentation of food preparation and storage records.  Employees in this class receive direct supervision from the Food Service Supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

Six (6) months experience preparing meals on a large scale in a commercial, institutional, or a related facility.

NOTE:  Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.

Special Requirements

After employment is offered, applicants are required to pass a physical examination.  Must be clean and neat in appearance and comply with established dress codes of the Montgomery County Youth Facility.  Must be able to lift food supplies weighing up to 50 lbs.  Must become Serve Safe Certified within 6 months after hire.
