The
fundamental reason this classification exists is to supervise the food
preparation for detainees in the facility and manage the food service for the
Montgomery County Detention Facility and the Montgomery County Youth Facility.
Major work responsibilities include overseeing or directing the kitchen staff
and detainees in the daily preparation, cooking, serving, and cleanup of large
quantity meals and overall kitchen operations, supervising two or more
permanent employees and direct the activities of the detainees assigned to work
in the kitchen, and handling complaints, requests and special needs. Work is
performed under the direction of a Corrections Officer Captain who serves as
the Program Coordinator at the Detention Facility or receives direct
supervision from the Juvenile Detention Director and Assistant Juvenile
Detention Director at the Youth Facility.
High
School Diploma or GED. Three (3) years of experience in large-scale cooking
with at least two of the three years in a supervisory or lead role; experience
in planning and preparing menus and meals, ordering food supplies or items, and
overseeing the cleaning and maintenance of kitchen facilities. Must be Serv
Safe Certified.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES: Physical ability to lift food items weighing up to 50 lbs. unassisted as needed to unload supplies and place into inventory or remove from inventory for preparation. Physical ability to stand and walk for extended periods (up to eight hours) as needed to supervise the preparation of meals.
