The
fundamental reason this position exists is to direct the repair and maintenance
of 200 bridges located in Montgomery County.
Work responsibilities of this classification include: supervising bridge
employees; planning work schedules; calculating amount of materials needed;
directing the maintenance and repair of existing county bridges; directing the
completion of small construction projects; and completing administrative duties. The employee reports directly to the County Engineer.
High
school diploma or G.E.D. and two (2) years of experience in bridge or roadway
maintenance and repair to include experience in operating excavators, backhoes,
or dozers and an additional two (2) years of supervisory experience over bridge
or roadway maintenance and repair crews.
NOTE:
Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite
knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.
Must
have a current Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and maintain an
insurable driving record in order to drive county vehicles. Physical ability to lift up to 100 pounds
unassisted to include chain saw, tree limbs, bags of grass seeds, signs and cones
as needed to repair county roads and roadways.
Physical ability to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl as needed to
inspect and perform work under bridge abutments and on roadway slopes and
bridge rails. Physical ability to work in extreme outdoor weather temperatures
and environments (i.e., heat, cold, rain, and dust) as needed to supervise work
crews engaged in the maintenance of county roads and roadways. Ability to work weekends, holidays and be on
call as needed to handle emergencies.
