The fundamental reason this position exists is to perform non-professional manual surveying and drafting work. Employees in this class perform routine tasks in survey parties and conduct routine investigations of a non-professional engineering nature. The essential functions of the position are: assists supervisors and other workers in computing grades and indicating grade points for bridges and roads; performs simple drafting duties; maintains all survey equipment and instruments; and contributes to departmental objectives in Road and Bridge Construction. The Engineering Aide I receives direct supervision from the Civil Engineering Technician III.
High school diploma or G.E.D. Preference will be given to applicants who have completed advanced mathematic courses such as Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry and Calculus or who have obtained surveying or drafting training and/or experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be accepted.
NOTE: Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.
Must possess and maintain a valid Alabama driver’s license and insurable driving record in order to drive a County vehicle as needed to transport personnel and equipment to and from project sites. Must be available to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed.
