The fundamental reason this position exists is to perform supervised skilled civil engineering work in the field and office. The incumbents assist higher level engineering employees in performing the daily tasks of the department. The essential functions of the position are: performs engineering field work; maintains records and prepares paperwork; performs drafting duties; assists with inspecting components of bridge structures; maintains all survey equipment; and performs on-site construction inspections. Work is usually performed with a Civil Engineering Technician III who checks for technical accuracy.
High school diploma or GED and two years of experience in surveying. Courses in drafting and advanced mathematics as well as experience using computer aided design equipment, electronic data collection equipment and/or conducting bridge/construction inspections are preferable.
NOTE: Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.
Must possess and maintain a valid Alabama driver’s license and insurable driving record in order to drive a County vehicle as needed to transport personnel and equipment to and from project sites. Must be available to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed.
