The fundamental reason this classification exists is to perform technical civil engineering work in the field or office in connection with the inspection, development, design, construction and maintenance of public works construction projects. The essential functions are: assists on the survey party performing surveys for new highways, highway improvements, bridges, drainage structures and other public works construction projects; performs drafting duties; inspects the construction of new streets, curbs, gutters, ditches in residential subdivisions built by private contractors; inspects highway, bridge and other public works construction projects; assists in the inspection of existing bridges; maintains detailed records and reports on construction projects; and assists on the survey party. This classification is distinguished from the lower level classes in this series by higher level of responsibility and the requirement to make decisions independently. Work is performed under the direct supervision of a high-level Civil Engineering Technician who checks for technical accuracy and the Assistant County Engineer.
High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent. Four (4) years of related experience in surveying, drafting, bridge and road construction.

the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be
considered.
Ability to work overtime, occasionally on weekends, weekdays, and holidays. Must possess and maintain a valid Alabama driver's license and an insurable driving record in order to drive a Montgomery County vehicle. May require certification in bridge inspection, material testing or surveying.
