The
fundamental reason this class exists is to perform and oversee complex technical
engineering work associated with the coordination, inspection, surveying,
location, design, construction, and maintenance of residential subdivision
streets, County roads, and highway structures such as culverts, bridges and
utilities associated with the County infrastructure. Essential functions are: directs
the day-to-day activities of the survey crew; prepares engineering designs,
plans and maps; manages and inspects the construction of new streets and roads
in residential subdivisions; supervises the construction and paving of new
County roads; and prepares and maintains records relating to road and bridge
construction and subdivision projects. Employees in this class exercise
independent judgment in the management and coordination of difficult technical
projects from oral and written guidelines. This classification is distinguished
from the lower classifications by the responsibility for handling and
overseeing the more complex technical work situations and the independence with
which duties are performed. Employee in the class reports to the Civil
Engineering Technician IV.
High
school diploma or G.E.D equivalent. Eight (8) years of experience in project
management or as a construction superintendent in highway and bridge
construction.
NOTE: Qualifying education, training and experience that provide
the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be
considered.
Ability
to work overtime, occasionally on weekends, weekdays, and holidays. Must
possess and maintain a valid Alabama driver's
license and an insurable driving record as needed to drive a Montgomery
vehicle. May require certification in bridge inspection, material testing or
surveying.
PHYSICAL ABILITIES: Physical
Ability to climb, bend, stoop, stand, walk long distances on rough terrain and
carry survey instruments and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds for extended periods.
Physical Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions with exposure to the
elements (hot, cold, rain, humid) as needed to perform job duties.
