Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this position exists is to coordinate and implement arts programs of the Arts Council of Montgomery and the Armory Learning Arts Center of the City of Montgomery.  The essential functions are:  works with the Arts Council of Montgomery; coordinates classes for the Armory Learning Arts Center; performs financial duties; develops logos, brochures, and written material, manages the Art Gallery, and develops and implements fund-raising plans.  Supervision is received from the Cultural Arts Director.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university with major course work in arts, studio art, recreation, or related degree and one year of experience in planning, developing, and programming arts events.  Experience may substitute for the required degree on a year-for-year basis.

Special Requirements

Must be available and willing to work odd hours to include weekends as needed to attend activities sponsored by the Arts Council of Montgomery and the Armory Learning Arts Center.  Must have a valid Alabama driver’s license as needed to drive City vehicle.

Kind of Examination

Applications are being accepted to fill one (1) vacancy and any vacancies that may occur during the life of the register. The current vacancy is with the City of Montgomery Leisure Services Department. Applicants will be screened and qualified based on education and experience as shown on the application. For this reason, applicants are urged to fill in the application form completely providing detailed information concerning the kinds of jobs they have held, the dates they held them, where and exactly what their duties were. If more than five qualified applications are received, a selection procedure will be administered in order to rank applicants on the employment register. Tied scores will not be broken (in accordance with Personnel Rules and Regulations, Rule VII, Section 3). If there are five or less qualified applicants, they will be considered equally qualified and placed on the register in alphabetical order.
