Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade.
**A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and MCCP Board Rules & Regulations**
The reason this position exists is to
perform specialized law enforcement work providing protection for civilian
aviation passengers, visitors, aircraft and facilities. Work involves
specialized security requirements of airport traffic direction, making arrests,
and detaining persons suspected of violating local, state, or federal laws or
regulations, participation in search procedures or implementation of bomb
threat plan, engaging in law enforcement activities including uniformed foot,
vehicle, Segway, and bicycle patrol to ensure the integrity of the commercial
aviation environment, and participating in training sessions on airport
security related subjects. This position reports to Airport Police Corporal,
Sergeant, Lieutenant and/or the Airport Police Chief.
Must
have completed a police recruit academy approved by the Alabama Peace Officers Standards
and Training (APOST) and be currently certified as a Police Officer.
*Applicants must
provide necessary documentation indicating they are currently POST certified in
law enforcement in order to be placed on the eligible register.
Must possess and maintain a current
Alabama driver's license. Must be willing to work nights, shifts, and weekends.
Must submit to a 5-year employment background check to satisfy Federal Aviation
Administration requirements. Must be
certified by a licensed physician to be in good health and physically fit for
duty. Must be 21 years of age, have U.S.
citizenship or have applied for U.S. citizenship before applying for Airport
Police Officer, and must complete a 1 year probationary period.
