Salary Information

Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade.

**A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and MCCP Board Rules & Regulations**

Nature of Work

The fundamental reason that this position exists is to perform professional accounting work. The essential functions of this position include obtaining financial data and information, preparing and processing financial documents and related information, evaluating financial data and information, providing consultation and expert advice to management, employees or other groups, serving as a lead worker, and various administrative tasks. Employees perform professional assignments requiring developed judgment and discretion in the application of professional accounting theory. Employees perform a variety of accounting assignments and/or assume on-going responsibility for an element of a larger accounting program, or a program of limited scope. The Accountant II level is distinguished from the Accountant I level, in that the latter would typically receive more supervision, perform less judgmental assignments, and have less direct responsibility for an on-going accounting activity. Employees at the Accountant II level may lead or supervise subordinate clerical or paraprofessional staff on a project basis, or in a limited context.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, public administration, or a closely related field with 33 semester or 45 quarter hours of accounting course work and two years of governmental accounting or auditing experience. Municipal experience is preferred.

Note: Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.


Kind of Examination

Applications are being accepted to fill one (1) vacancy and any vacancies that may occur during the life of the register.  The current vacancy is with the City of Montgomery Finance Department. Applicants will be screened and qualified based upon education and experience as shown on the application and supplemental questionnaire.  For this reason, applicants are urged to fill in the application form and the supplemental questionnaire completely providing detailed information concerning the kinds of jobs they have held, the dates they held them, where and exactly what their duties were.  If more than five qualified applications are received, the supplemental questionnaire will be used to rank applicants. Tied scores will not be broken (in accordance with Personnel Rules and Regulations, Rule VII, Section 3). If there are five or less qualified applicants, they will be considered equally qualified and placed on the register in alphabetical order.
