Nature of Work

The fundamental reason that this position exists is to provide skilled mechanical work in installing, repairing, and maintaining HVAC systems in the City of Montgomery facilities. Employees in this class are responsible for laying out work details, assigning duties, and inspecting the work of the HVAC Mechanic Is. In addition to supervising, the incumbent performs mechanical tasks. Assignments are made by written or oral instructions. Daily supervision is received from the Mechanical Trades Supervisor. On large projects, supervision may be received on the job site by an HVAC Mechanic III.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED and four (4) years of experience in installing, maintaining and repairing HVAC systems. Must have possession of an EPA 608 Type I and II certification.

NOTE: Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.

Special Requirements

Must possess and maintain a valid Alabama driver's license.  Must be willing to work nights, weekends and holidays and be on call 24 hours as needed. Must work outside for long periods of time, working in small confined spaces, and working in high areas.

Kind of Examination

Applications are being accepted to fill one (1) vacancy and any other vacancies that may occur during the life of the register.  The current vacancy is with the City of Montgomery Building Maintenance Department. Applicants will be screened and qualified based upon education and experience as shown on the application and supplemental questionnaire.  For this reason, applicants are urged to fill in the application form and  supplemental questionnaire completely providing detailed information concerning the kinds of jobs they have held, the dates they held them, where and exactly what their duties were. If more than five qualified applications are received, the supplemental questionnaire will be used to rank applicants on the register. Tied scores will not be broken. If there are five (5) or less qualified applicants, they will be considered equally qualified and placed on the register in alphabetical order.
