Salary Information

Compensation plans are based on a multi-step progression system. The pay range reflects the entry level and maximum salary potential in the assigned pay grade.

**A starting salary may be negotiated and will be commensurate with education, training and experience in alignment with pay administration policies and MCCP Board Rules & Regulations**

Nature of Work

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to order, record, store, and issue automotive, heavy equipment and/or other related parts to include tires and supplies for fleet maintenance and repair. The work responsibilities of the classification are: maintains a large and varied stock of automotive and vehicle parts; orders parts by reviewing auto/vehicle parts manuals contacting vendors, etc.; processes vendor invoices; processes work orders from mechanics; monitors and maintains parts inventory; and performs department related duties. Direct supervision is received from the Fleet Maintenance Parts Supervisor.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or G.E.D. and two (2) years of experience in automotive/vehicle parts to include tires, and counter work to include computerized inventory and purchasing.

NOTE:  Qualifying education, training and experience that provide the requisite knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job will be considered.

Special Requirements

May be required to work days or nights and some holidays.  Must be able to work flexible work schedules as needed to maintain adequate manpower.  Must have or obtain a valid and current Alabama driver’s license in order to drive city vehicles. Must obtain forklift certification after probationary period.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES: Physically able to lift and move objects up to 75 lbs. unassisted. Physically able to stand, stoop, bend, lift, pull and climb as needed to locate part numbers on vehicles or equipment. Physically able to operate vehicles and material handling equipment as needed to pick up, move, load and unload parts, equipment and supplies.

Kind of Examination

Applicants will be screened and qualified based upon education and experience as shown on the application and supplemental questionnaire.  For this reason, applicants are urged to fill in the application and supplemental questionnaire form completely providing detailed information concerning the kinds of jobs they have held, the dates they held them, where and exactly what their duties were.  If more than five qualified applications are received, a selection device will be administered to rank applicants on the register.  Tied scores will not be broken. If there are five or less qualified applicants, they will be considered equally qualified and placed on the register in alphabetical order.
