Graphic Designer II (#2823DC)


Essential Functions

Prepare and produce visual communications on projects involving print design, web design and other Web-based development activities for Common Council/City Clerk’s Office and other city agencies. Responsible for concept development, logo and identity package design, support of public relation functions, events and promotions, along with social marketing and media campaigns.

Design PowerPoint slideshows and marketing collateral including aldermanic newsletters, direct mail, promotional materials, postcards, programs, flyers, stationery, invitations, brochures, signs, displays and newspaper advertisements. Create original artwork, maps and logos for use on printed material, website and City Channel 25. Design materials and coordinate with vendors on a variety of media including web banner ads, digital billboards, newspaper and print ads, bus shelter ads and special promotions.

Develop and design new websites from initial concept through completion, along with coordinating identity packages and all printed materials, for specialized marketing initiatives. Utilize social media for promotion of events and services. Create graphics, update content and manage Facebook page for Sparky, the city’s fireworks safety mascot. Create specialized graphics for use as Twitter backgrounds and Facebook images. Incorporate Twitter feeds, Facebook widgets and Google Calendar Application into web pages.

Provide design for City Clerk’s Office/Common Council and other city web pages using Content Management System. Create page designs for License Division intranet website - LIRA. Create and update online content, PDF forms and brochures, web surveys, html e-mails and e-newsletters, banner ads, flash animations, photo slideshows and integrate video on to website. Remain current in web development and integrate advanced technologies when possible. Remain current in web best-practices, image optimization techniques, SEO – Search Engine Optimization and Web Analytics.

Minimum Requirements

BA in Graphic Design, Graphic Arts from an accredited college or university

Two years of experience in Graphic Design

 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Other Characteristics

Knowledge of graphic arts and design, with excellent written and verbal communication skills; organizational and task management skills; attention to detail; ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously; judgment and problem-solving skills and abilities; experience in the planning, layout, graphic design, and production of publication materials and web sites; and an ability to identify effective graphic design, layout, and formatting. Experience and comfort with multiple software applications including Adobe Acrobat, Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, PowerPoint, and Microsoft Office Suite programs is required. Must be able to establish and maintain positive working relationships with management and staff at all levels; work a minimum of four continual hours on a computer incorporating breaks; skill in the creation of electronic presentations using PowerPoint and Flash for educational, public service and outreach purposes;  knowledge of graphics for the web including use of appropriate file formats; and knowledge of and skill in the operation of desktop workstations.
