The Electrical Engineer Senior in the Transportation unit of the Infrastructure Services section is responsible for the overall management and guidance of staff and resources for Street Lighting and Underground Conduit projects throughout the City of Milwaukee.

• Manage and review the activities and correspondence of the Street Lighting and Underground Communication Conduit Engineering Design Unit.
• Provide technical engineering reviews of street lighting and underground communication conduit facilities.
• Prepare and monitor the operating and capital budgets annually for incorporation in the overall Infrastructure Services budget.
• Perform technical engineering studies related to street lighting and underground communication conduit needs.
• Manage a staff comprised of engineers, engineering technicians and drafting technicians, by counseling, mentoring and coaching, to ensure efficient and effective delivery of services.
• Prepare and review material specifications and coordinate material purchases for street lighting and underground communication conduit devices.
• Represent the division at meetings of the City Planning Commission, Board of Zoning Appeals, and the Zoning, Neighborhoods and Development Committee of the Common Council to provide an assessment or interpretation of the site development related street lighting and underground communication conduit impacts.

1. Bachelor's Degree in electrical engineering or a related field from an accredited college or university.
2. Five years of experience in the planning, design, construction or operations of street lighting and underground communications conduit of streets and highway facilities, including three years of management experience.
3. Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Wisconsin or state of residence (must obtain Wisconsin within 6 months of appointment) at time of application and throughout employment.
4. Valid Wisconsin Driver's License at the time of appointment and throughout employment.  

Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

• Experience preparing operating and capital budgets related to municipal engineering.

• Knowledge of street lighting and underground communication conduit engineering practices.
• Knowledge of budgeting practices and principles to prepare operating and capital budgets.
• Knowledge of personnel management practices and principles and the ability to manage, coach and mentor a team of technical professionals.
• Knowledge of project management principles and practices as they related to large-scale electrical engineering projects.
• Knowledge and understanding of the Street Lighting Design and Underground Communication conduit manuals and the State of Wisconsin codes.
• Organizational skills to prioritize and accomplish work and meet deadlines.
• Interpersonal skills to develop effective relationships with diverse groups of people.
• Written communication skills to develop technical reports and business correspondence.
• Oral communication skills to effectively communicate with people inside and outside the organization.
• Ability to analyze and problem solve complex issues stemming from lighting and conduit projects.
• Ability to make presentations to various size groups communicating technical information.
• Ability to prepare detailed cost estimates for complex engineering projects.

The current salary range (PG 1IX) for City of Milwaukee residents is $85,000 - $105,669 annually, and the non-resident salary range is $82,915 - $103,077 annually.  Appointment above the minimum is possible based upon level of experience and other qualifications and is subject to approval.

THE SELECTION PROCESS will be job related and will consist of one or more of the following: education and experience evaluation; written, oral, or performance tests, or other assessment methods.
