Purpose
Essential Functions
Data Entry of Materials
·
Enter data into computer databases to produce requisitions,
disbursements, or material receipts for all types of electrical, construction,
traffic control, street, and sewer maintenance
supplies.

Check all documents for accuracy.
·
Assist field and shop personnel in the proper completion of disbursements
and assignment of proper commodity
codes.
·
Code all material and items as
required.
·
Monitor all stock/non-stock material levels. Inform proper
personnel of reorder
action.
·
Verify accuracy of daily inventory transactions with material
requisition and disbursement computer reports.
·
Make adjustment entries according to corrected discrepancies.
· Conduct physical inventory counts on a daily, yearly or periodic basis as established, report variances to supervisor for investigation and action.
Disbursement of Materials
- Assist in unloading new material from trucks and transport material within stockrooms and storage yards or between storage areas and/or various fabrication shops.

Ensure materials are secured properly.
- Pack materials for shipment and/or return to vendors. Load vehicles for returns and disbursement of materials.
- Perform general store housekeeping functions, keeping all bins/shelves well stocked and orderly.
- Organize, adjust, maintain and clean shelving and other inventory areas.
- Operate vehicles and equipment such as forklift, hand tools, mobile crane, overhead crane and pallet jack.

Conditions of Employment

Ability to work outside in extreme weather
conditions.
·
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds of equipment/material
alone.
·
Ability to stand for long periods of time, up to eight hours per
day.
·
Ability to operate equipment used in the inventory area
including forklifts, skid steer, pallet jacks and hand
carts.
Minimum Requirements
1. One
year of storekeeping experience (i.e., receiving, checking, storing,
disbursing, etc.) related to the essential functions of this position.
2. Valid
driver’s license at time of appointment and throughout employment.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience
may be considered.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Other Characteristics
Technical
·
Knowledge of storekeeping, warehousing and inventory
procedures.

Ability to utilize standard computer software, including
Microsoft Word and Excel.
·
Ability to use office equipment, such as a multifunction copy
machine and calculator.
·
Ability to learn new software, systems and equipment as they
become available, including those related to inventory management and
barcoding.
·
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, forms, policies and
procedures.
·
Ability to follow verbal and written
instructions.
·
Ability to distinguish between letters and numbers to accurately
document and identify commodities.

·
Verbal communication skills to effectively communicate over the
phone or in person.

Written communication skills to be able to write clear documents
and correspondence.

customers inside and outside the

Current Salary
The current salary (Pay Range 6HN) is $38,970, and the current
resident incentive salary for City of Milwaukee residents is $40,139 annually.

Selection Process
THE SELECTION PROCESS will be job related and will consist of one or more of the following: an evaluation of education, experience and/or responses to supplemental questions; a written or performance test, a structured interview or other assessment methods. The Department of Employee Relations reserves the right to call only the most qualified candidates to structured interviews and performance examinations. Structured interviews may include written exercises. Selection process component weights will be determined by further analysis of the job.
