Introduction

THIS POSITION IS FOR CURRENT CITY OF MILWAUKEE EMPLOYEES ONLY.  

Transfer/Promotional Opportunities and Promotional Examinations are not open to Milwaukee Public Schools employees or to the public. Only current non-probationary City of Milwaukee employees and civilian personnel in MFD and MPD hired through a City Service Commission process will be considered. Individuals with exempt, provisional, temporary or emergency appointments are not eligible for transfer.

Purpose

Under the direction of the IT Manager, the Network Coordinator – Senior manages computer network operations and provides support and documentation of system functionality.

Essential Functions

  • Conduct computer network hardware and software implementation, support of the system, patching, and upgrading of servers, workstations, printers, and other network equipment and communications equipment.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of the network maintenance of hardware and software inventories, appropriate image copies, and license tracking.
  • Provide and manage the computer/network help desk operation for the Milwaukee Water Works (MWW).
  • Conduct troubleshooting to maintain the network system and eliminate downtime of users.
  • Provide related technical and user training, including written instructions, training classes and one on one tutoring.
  • Provide related support of software and related user training.
  • Perform administration and support for templates, active directories, and software, including City e-mail administration, FMIS, and HRMS; assist in defining standards and exceptions, and write and maintain appropriate documentation.
  • Conduct research of new hardware, software and servers; advise managers regarding budget replacements and/or additions.
  • Conduct team lead responsibilities as prioritized by IT Manager, including setting priorities for and directing the assignments of Network Coordinator Associates to handle network functions.
  • Plan, implement, and monitor computer security for networking, Windows administration, and enterprise software.
  • Provide training for Network Coordinator Associates to meet the needs of the Utility’s operating systems, including upgrades, patching, and recovery.

Conditions of Employment

  • The Network Coordinator Associate must be willing to respond to technical emergencies during non-standard hours or may at times work an altered work schedule.
  • Ability to transport computer hardware and accessories weighing up to 35 lbs.

Minimum Requirements

  1. Regular status as a City of Milwaukee employee, having successfully completed a probationary period for a civil service position.
  2. Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in information technology, computer science, mathematics or closely related field
  3. Three years of experience installing, configuring and troubleshooting Microsoft Operating Systems.
  4. Valid driver’s license at time of appointment and throughout employment.  

Equivalent combinations of education and experience may also be considered.

Knowledges, Skills, Abilities & Other Characteristics

  • Knowledge of computer operating systems (i.e. MS-Windows, Unix) and associated software including office suite, GIS software, database management programs and spreadsheets.
  • Knowledge of Windows MDT imaging operations, antivirus programs, corporate backup operations, TCP/IP protocol and file transfer technologies.
  • Knowledge of VMware virtualization or Hyper-V virtualization software.
  • Knowledge of Veeam backup and Zerto VM recovery software.
  • Knowledge of Hyper-V virtualization software.
  • Interpersonal skills to effectively develop and maintain tactful working relationships with a variety of individuals including the public, contractors, co-workers, other City departments and management.
  • Written communication skills, including the ability to write clear instructions and documentation.
  • Ability to research and resolve technical problems using the Internet.
  • Ability to identify, trouble shoot and resolve hardware/software problems.
  • Ability to provide end-user support.
  • Ability to remain current with latest developments in technology and systems.
  • Ability to recommend technical changes and updates to MWW digital infrastructure.

Current Salary

The current salary range (PG 2GX) is $51,469 - $72,063 annually, and the resident incentive salary range for City of Milwaukee residents is $53,013 - $74,225 annually. Appointment will be made in accordance with the City of Milwaukee Salary Ordinance.

Selection Process

THE SELECTION PROCESS will be job related and will consist of one or more of the following: an evaluation of related education, experience and accomplishments, written tests, interview, or other assessment methods. The Department of Employee Relations and the Milwaukee Water Works reserve the right to call only the most qualified candidates to oral or performance tests or personal interviews. Information from the selection process will be used to make a hiring decision. Selected candidates will be transferred and/or promoted to the position.
