Purpose

Under the direction of the ReCast Program Manager in the Office of Violence Prevention (OVP), the Community Outreach Project Liaison assists in the planning and implementation of a coordinated community response system to prevent violence and to support community members that have been impacted by violence. 


Essential Functions

Advocacy and Outreach

  • Provide staff support in crisis response services to victims in Milwaukee, including identifying resources and supportive services.
  • Lead community meetings, plan outreach activities and report on planning and action items.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of a coordinated crisis response system to include system and community partners.
  • Provide referrals for children, youth, families and community members.
  • Provide practical and culturally appropriately support to victims, their immediate family and affected community members.
  • Facilitate and coordinate events and workshops related to response intervention.
  • Serve as a liaison to police agencies, mental health receiving facilities, the Department of Children, Youth and Families and mental health community resources.
  • Build and maintain key partnerships and awareness.
  • Assist in the planning and implementation of OVP led community events; increase and strengthen partnerships with community organizations.
  • Prepare and facilitate presentations to employees, community groups, and outside agencies.

Administrative Duties

  • Compile and submit regular progress updates/reports related to outcomes and programs.
  • Generate memos, letters and reports.

  • The Community Outreach Project Liaison must be willing to work beyond standard business hours, including evenings and weekends, to meet departmental needs.
  • This position requires traveling to various sites throughout the City of Milwaukee.

Minimum Requirements

1.    Bachelor’s degree in public health, social science, criminal justice, sociology, psychology or a related field from an accredited college or university.

2.    Two years of relevant professional experience, including provision of support services to clients and/or organization of community outreach activities and meetings.

3. Valid Driver’s license and the availability of a properly insured personal automobile for use on the job at time of appointment and throughout employment. (mileage reimbursement is provided pursuant to Section 350-183 of the Milwaukee Code of Ordinances)

Desirable Qualifications

· Master’s degree in public health, social science, criminal justice, sociology, psychology or a related field from an accredited college or university.

· Bilingual in Spanish.

· Experience in social media messaging.

  • Presentation skills to effectively represent the Milwaukee Health Department at outreach events, engage with the community, and give presentations to various audiences, large and small.

  • Ability to identify and build relationships with related community organizations and agencies.

Current Salary

The current salary range (Pay Range 2FX) for City of Milwaukee is $50,636-$70,347 annually and the resident incentive salary for City of Milwaukee residents is $52,155-$72,458.

 

Appointment above the minimum is possible based upon level of experience and other qualifications and is subject to approval.

Selection Process

THE SELECTION PROCESS will be job related and will consist of one or more of the following: an evaluation of education, experience and/or responses to supplemental questions; a written or performance test, a structured interview or other assessment methods. The Department of Employee Relations reserves the right to call only the most qualified candidates to structured interviews and performance examinations. Structured interviews may include written exercises. Selection process component weights will be determined by further analysis of the job.
