MWW has two vacancies for the Accounting Assistant III position within the Accounting Services unit of the Milwaukee Water Works-Business Section.
Purpose
Accounting Assistant IIIs perform general accounting,
procurement, and accounts payable functions, including the timely and accurate
review of billing data adjustments and corrections for the Accounting Services Unit
of Milwaukee Water Works (MWW).
Essential Functions
- Use the City’s Financial Management Information System (FMIS) to enter invoice information for the Business and Engineering Sections, and process the invoices for payment.
- Create direct purchase orders (POs) and invoices involving blanket purchase orders for various MWW sections.
- Process Interdepartmental Requisitions and Invoices (IRIs) for payment.
- Review open encumbrances and prior year POs; assist with resolving outstanding issues and make resulting adjustments.
- Enter and process sub-requisition information into FMIS when required for certain purchases.
- Assemble required purchasing documents to accompany requisitions.
- Maintain detailed records of all MWW's requisitions, sub-requisitions, and related paperwork, and respond to inquiries from the Purchasing Division, MWW section managers, and/or others regarding related issues.
- Process travel expense forms for all MWW sections.
- Order and distribute office supplies, forms, and other administrative items.
- Maintain purchase records for MWW vehicle inventory.
- Review and process biweekly Procurement Card Program (Procard) account statements for submission to the Office of the Comptroller, and assist the ProCard manager with related tasks.
- Review open encumbrance reports and confirm POs and service orders to remain open.

Minimum Requirements
- Three years of experience performing accounting and/or bookkeeping work, OR an Associate Degree in accounting, business administration, finance, or a closely related field from an accredited college PLUS one year of experience performing accounting and/or bookkeeping work.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

Desirable Qualifications
- Experience with Oracle’s PeopleSoft FMIS.
- Experience with governmental accounting.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Other Characteristics
- Knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
- Ability to comprehend and effectively follow City of Milwaukee, Public Service Commission (PSC) of Wisconsin, and MWW accounting policies and procedures.
- Proficiency using software programs, including standard applications such as Microsoft Office, financial management information systems, and computer databases.
- Ability to use appropriate mathematical methods or formulas to complete work assignments.
- Attention to detail to ensure the accuracy of calculations, data entry, and financial reports.
- Ability to read and interpret job-related materials.
- Knowledge of the principles and processes for providing customer service to internal and external customers.
- Verbal communication skills to clearly convey technical information to various audiences.
- Written communication skills to create business correspondence and reports.
- Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to work in a collaborative environment with people whose backgrounds may differ from one’s own.

Current Salary
The current salary range (Pay Range 5GN) is $53,351-$66,689 annually, and the current resident
incentive salary range for City of Milwaukee residents is $54,952-$68,690 annually. Appointment will be made in
accordance with the provisions of the salary ordinance.

Selection Process
THE SELECTION PROCESS will be job related and will consist of one or more
of the following: an evaluation of education, experience and/or responses to
supplemental questions; a written or performance test, a structured interview,
or other assessment methods. The Department of Employee Relations reserves the
right to call only the most qualified candidates to structured interviews and
performance examinations. Structured interviews may include written exercises.
Selection process component weights will be determined by further analysis of
the job.
