Purpose
The Family Violence Prevention Coordinator plays a pivotal
role in supporting citywide initiatives to reduce family and gender-based
violence.
Essential Functions
Program Coordination
- Assist with budget and grant management, program planning and evaluation, and report writing for the Family Violence Prevention Program.
- Engage in project development, including connecting with community collectives to strengthen the City’s violence prevention strategies.
- Analyze data from community feedback, interviews, case studies, incident reports, service utilization metrics, and surveys to assess the impact of family violence prevention efforts and track trends in violence and service effectiveness.
- Utilize the Geographic Information System (GIS) to map trends.
- Use secure databases and reporting systems for tracking data.
- Utilize tools for statistical analysis and assist in data collection and research for best practices.
Community Collaboration, Education, and Legislation
- Engage with diverse communities to ensure the Family Violence Prevention Program is culturally sensitive and accessible.
- Build partnerships and maintain relationships with local organizations, community groups, law enforcement, healthcare providers, and social service agencies to create a collaborative network for addressing family violence.
- Advocate for enhanced safety, support for victims and their families, and well-being for all residents by participating in outreach work and providing education.
- Represent the City of Milwaukee and the Office of Community Wellness and Safety (OCWS) in the community during presentations, workshops, or location information sessions.
- Provide referral and follow-up resources to victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, interpersonal violence, and intentional injury.
- Assess and advise OCWS and Milwaukee Commission on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault (MCDVSA) on pending legislation and policy relevant to domestic violence, sexual assault, interpersonal violence, and intentional injury.
Milwaukee Commission on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault
Support
- Staff the Milwaukee Commission on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault (MCDVSA), including scheduling and facilitating meetings and disseminating meeting minutes.
- Support local, state, and national initiatives that involve collaborating with the MCDVSA, including the Wisconsin Coalition Against Domestic Violence and the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence.
- Ensure coordination and alignment with national best practices to prevent domestic violence and sexual assault.
- Link victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, interpersonal violence, and intentional injury with community services and resources.
- Respond to media inquiries.
- Attend and participate in committees and community meetings.

Conditions of Employment
- Must work beyond standard business hours, including evening and weekends hours, to meet the departmental needs.
- This position requires traveling to various sites throughout the City of Milwaukee.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a human services field such as public health, social work, education, health education, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
- A valid driver’s license at time of appointment and throughout employment.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be
considered.

Technical
- Knowledge of public relations and community outreach best practices.
- Knowledge of grant funding through public and private sources.
- Skill in reading and interpreting technical documents such as policies, procedures, ordinances, statutes, and administrative rules.
- Ability to use spreadsheets, databases, project management, and word processing software to develop reports, business correspondence, and summary data.
- Ability to gather and interpret data and respond to data requests.
- Ability to create visual aids based off of statistics for presentations.

- Written communication skills to create reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals.
- Verbal communication and presentation skills to represent the program effectively.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with the public, elected officials, community groups, co-workers, and management.

- Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with coworkers and clients whose backgrounds may differ from one’s own.
- Strong public relations skills.

Current Salary
The current salary range (Pay Range 2GX) is $58,656-76,474 annually,
and the resident incentive salary range for City of Milwaukee Residents
is $60,416-$78,768 annually. Appointment above the minimum is
possible based upon level of experience and other qualifications and is subject
to approval.

Selection Process
THE SELECTION PROCESS will be job related and will consist of one or more of the following: an evaluation of education, experience and/or responses to supplemental questions; a written or performance test, a structured interview, or other assessment methods. The Department of Employee Relations reserves the right to call only the most qualified candidates to structured interviews and performance examinations. Structured interviews may include written exercises. Selection process component weights will be determined by further analysis of the job.
