Introduction

The department may fill positions at the CADD and GIS Technician 1 or 2 level, based upon candidate qualifications and the nature of the assignment.
The names of eligible candidates who successfully complete
the selection process will be place on the highest-level eligible list for
which they qualify.
Purpose
The CADD and GIS Technician drafts construction plans,
performs other mapping and drawing-related tasks and updates records related to
paving and green infrastructure projects using Computer-Aided Design and
Drafting (CADD) and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software.
Essential Functions
ENGINEERING DRAFTING
- Prepare engineering drawings using CADD software for the City and State paving, traffic calming, and green infrastructure projects.
- Performs permit reviews for oversize and overweight vehicles.
- Organize and maintain digital and paper files.
- Compute mathematical calculations such as distance, area, angle, and dimension.
GIS DATA MANAGEMENT
- Maintain roadway asset management maps using GIS software.
- Update engineering quarter sections, official maps, and maintain databases.

Conditions of Employment
- Must be able to perform repetitive motions and lift up to 10 pounds occasionally.
Minimum Requirements
CADD and GIS Technician 1
- Successful completion of high school algebra AND high school geometry.
CADD and GIS Technician 2
- Two years of full-time civil engineering drafting experience using AutoCAD or MicroStation.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may also be considered.
All Positions
- The ability to travel independently around the City of Milwaukee by public transportation, walking, biking, or driving.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Other Characteristics
TECHNICAL
- Ability to learn the City’s paving, traffic calming, and green infrastructure systems and functions.
- Ability to utilize and understand City mapping layers and GIS data sets and understand legal descriptions.
- Knowledge of mathematical calculations used for drafting and design.
- Knowledge of construction practices.
- Skill in updating and maintaining engineering records and engineering databases.
- Proficiency using standard computer applications, including Microsoft Office.
- Ability to produce accurate and detailed plans, drawings, maps, and diagrams for various types of construction projects using CADD and GIS software.
- Ability to read and interpret technical job-related documents such as construction drawings, utility maps, and specifications.

- Written communication skills, including the ability to write technical reports and business correspondence.
- Verbal communication skills in order to effectively communicate with internal and external customers.
- Interpersonal and teamwork skills to be able to develop and maintain effective working relationships with managers and colleagues.
- Ability to work cooperatively and fairly with coworkers and residents whose backgrounds may differ from one’s own.
- Ability to provide a high level of professional customer service.

Current Salary
CADD and GIS Technician 1
The current salary range (3PN) is $57,730-$79,542 annually,
and the resident incentive salary for City of Milwaukee residents is $60,039-$82,723 annually. Appointment
above the minimum is possible based upon level of experience and other
qualifications and is subject to approval.
CADD and GIS Technician 2
The current salary range (3QN) is $60,616-$85,905 annually,
and the resident incentive salary for City of Milwaukee residents is $63,041-$89,341 annually. Appointment
above the minimum is possible based upon level of experience and other
qualifications and is subject to approval.

Selection Process
THE SELECTION PROCESS will be job-related and will
consist of one or more of the following: an evaluation of education,
experience, and/or responses to supplemental questions; a written or
performance test, a structured interview, or other assessment methods. The
Department of Employee Relations reserves the right to call only the most
qualified candidates to structured interviews and performance examinations.
Structured interviews may include written exercises. Selection process
component weights will be determined by further analysis of the job.
INITIAL FILING DATE – The selection process will be held as soon as practical after the deadline listed above.
