Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago

Under general supervision performs the more difficult or responsible tasks in gathering samples of water from streams, waterways, and industrial waste discharges for use in laboratory analysis and performs related duties as required.

• Maintains and operates Tunnel and Reservoir Plan (TARP) generator trailer units, analytical meters, and other specialized ground water monitoring devices. 
• Calculates well volumes, flow rates, and pump rates for TARP ground water monitoring wells. 
• Analyzes and interprets collected field data.
• Fills out log sheet on samples, records observations of visible qualities of the liquid sample; tags samples and identifies with names, addresses, times, dates and other pertinent information; maintains depth reading log sheets.
• Oversees work of Pollution Control Technician I crew members.

• Gathers water samples manually or with automatic sampling devices; places them into appropriate containers. 
• Adds chemical preservatives to samples.  
• Cleans and maintains sampling equipment, special testing equipment, vehicles, TARP generator trailer units, and work stations.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

May involve exposure to industrial equipment or operations, and may involve contact with hazardous or toxic material.  May require frequent exposure to a variety of weather conditions.

• Ability to perform all principal requirements of the job, including lifting heavy objects.
• Ability to accurately record information regarding samples.
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.

Graduation from a standard senior high school or the equivalent and one year of experience as a water sampler, laboratory assistant, or laboratory technician.  Possession of a valid driver's license.
