General Statement
Under supervision, installs, maintains, troubleshoots and tests District Wide and Local Area data and telecommunications networks and assists in the maintenance of the computer security program.

- Installs and tests the performance of the Wide/Local Area network configurations and associated hardware and software.
- Performs backups of network and communication data.
- Assists in the configuration of security settings or access permissions for groups or individuals.
- Installs and tests the performance of voice communications system hardware and software.
- Assists in the installation and performance monitoring of Windows client/server based systems.
- Maintains support to voice and data communications network hardware and software.
- Analyzes and reports computer network security breaches or attempted breaches.
- Monitors and analyzes use of the computer network and conducts related investigations as assigned.
- Conducts security testing and reviews as assigned.
- Provides technical support to other Information Technology Department staff as required.
Other Job Functions
- Assists in the implementation and support of network configurations and associated hardware and software.
- Assists in maintenance and support to voice communications network hardware and software.
- Provides after hours and weekend support when required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Environmental Conditions
Work is performed in a typical office environment and requires the use of standard office equipment including computers.
Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Some knowledge of local area networks, wide area networks and distributed database systems.
- Some knowledge of communications equipment and associated operating systems.
- Some knowledge of computer architecture, operating systems and computer languages.
- Some knowledge of computer operating systems, programming languages and database management systems.
- Interpersonal skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
Graduation from a four-year accredited college or university majoring in information technology, computer science or a closely related field.
Substitution
Full-time paid experience in network design, installation and maintenance may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. A Cisco CCNA certification may be substituted for one year of the required education.
Promotional Requirement
- Possession of a bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science or a closely related field and one year of service with the District as an IT Support Analyst II, IT Support Analyst I, Systems Support Specialist II, Administrative Assistant, Administrative Specialist, Human Resources Assistant, Secretary or Senior Administrative Specialist.
- Civil service status in one of the foregoing classifications.
