Under supervision, performs skilled manual work in connection with construction, alteration and repair of structures or articles of wood or wood substitute material, and directs the work of assigned Carpenters.

- Performs first-line supervision of assigned Carpenters in the maintenance of a water reclamation plant or related facility, by performing skilled manual work in the construction, alteration and repair of wood structures, trestles, scaffolding, towers, forms for concrete construction, and fences.
- Participates in planning the work of assigned Carpenters.
- Checks work progress and gives instructions and training in job duties and safety practices.
- Fabricates and installs wooden sludge collector flights and skimmer flights in settling and skimming tanks; replaces steel or plastic wear shoes on flights.
- Builds, rebuilds or repairs wooden bridging and guard rails; performs interior construction including framing, drywall, trim work, suspended ceilings, doors and frames.
- Lays out work and marks, saws, cuts, shapes, planes, miters, sands, scrapes, finishes, fits and assembles work in accordance with plans, sketches or instructions.
- Requisitions tools, equipment, supplies and/or materials from the storeroom.
May involve exposure to a variety of operating mechanical equipment and loud noise and/or noxious odors. May include working in all types of weather conditions throughout the plant facility and collection system.
One year of experience as a journeyman carpenter.
