Under supervision, performs skilled manual work in connection with the assembly, erection, fabrication and repair of architectural metal work for buildings or other structures.
Essential Job Functions

- Under supervision, performs skilled work in the assembly, erection, fabrication and repair of architectural metal work for buildings, window casings, locks and door checks on steel doors, cornices, stairways, platforms, railings, floor gratings, lockers, bins, partitions and fences.
- Drills, rivets, reams, fits and assembles architectural metalwork according to plans, specifications or other instructions.
- Interprets rough sketches used for shop fabrication of architectural metal work.
- Fabricates architectural metal work in the shop using appropriate machines and tools.
- Loads and unloads architectural metal work and materials.
- Erects and dismantles portable scaffolding or rigging required in the work.
- Welds or cuts a variety of steel and aluminum shapes and structures by gas or electric process, or power saws.
- Conducts work in a safe manner and in accordance with established safety rules and practices.
Other Job Functions
- Is responsible for the custody and care of all tools of the trade in performing architectural ironwork.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Environmental Conditions
May involve exposure to a variety of operating mechanical equipment and loud noise and/or noxious odors. May include working in all types of weather conditions throughout the plant facility and collection system.
Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Considerable knowledge of architectural ironworking.
- Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
- Ability to work from sketches, blueprints and specifications.
- Ability to do oxyacetylene and electric arc welding.
- Skill in the use and care of the tools, machines and equipment of the trade.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
Graduation from a standard senior high school or the equivalent and completion of an approved apprentice training program in architectural ironwork or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
Substitution
Additional experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
