General Statement
Under general supervision, has charge of the use and maintenance of assigned motorized equipment and of the dispatching and routing of trucks.

- Supervises the work of assigned truck drivers and garage employees.
- Supervises the maintenance, servicing and repair of trucks and other motor driven vehicles and equipment.
- Receives, interprets and communicates instructions regarding work activities, schedules, procedures, directives, manuals and rules.
- Supervises the dispatching and routing of trucks and the operation of the garage used in storing, servicing and maintaining automotive equipment.
- Plans and schedules work assignments as required.
- Monitors, maintains records and provides reports on subordinates work progress and completion, routine scheduled maintenance and insures adequate training of personnel as needed.
- Obtains estimates of materials, parts and labor required for repairs and maintenance of trucks and other equipment; checks materials and equipment received; requisitions and safeguards materials, tools and lubricants.
- Takes corrective action as needed in response to emergency situations, such as: malfunctioning equipment, vehicular/personnel accidents, or disrupted operational processes.
- Communicates on a regular basis with supervisor and other personnel to conduct, coordinate, schedule and complete assignments.
Other Job Functions
- Works with union steward and supervisor on disciplinary matters or grievances.
- Administers first aid in case of injury and secures prompt medical attention when necessary.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Environmental Conditions
May involve exposure to a variety of operating mechanical equipment and loud noise and/or noxious odors and traffic. May include working in all types of weather conditions throughout and outside the plant facility and collection system. May involve working in close proximity to or in conjunction with construction activities and heavy equipment, and may require exposure to a variety of weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Thorough knowledge of the operating characteristics of light to medium trucks with power accessories.
- Thorough knowledge of driving laws and regulations.
- Thorough knowledge of the maintenance and repair characteristics and requirements of power accessories trucks.
- Ability to plan and supervise the work of others in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale.
- Ability to keep record of fleet operations and to prepare and submit reports.
Absolute Requirements
Possession of a valid Class A Commercial Drivers License, with endorsements for vehicles with air brakes, combination vehicles, hazardous materials and tanker vehicles.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
Graduation from a standard senior high school or the equivalent and four years of experience as a truck driver.
Substitution
Additional experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
Promotional Requirement
- One year of service with the District as a Truck Driver.
- Civil service status as a Truck Driver.
