Under supervision, performs skilled manual work in the installation and maintenance of electrical circuits, apparatus, machinery and equipment.

• Installs, troubleshoots, repairs, adjusts and maintains electrical equipment and controls in water reclamation plants, pumping stations and sewage collection control structures.
• Maintains, troubleshoots and repairs motor vehicle electrical systems and components.
• Performs necessary rigging in handling equipment and operates cranes, hoists, sludge diggers and bridges to expedite installation and repair work.
• Lays out raceways by bending, cutting, threading heavy wall conduit, flexible conduit, and EMT and cable trays. Installs conduit fittings and pull boxes. Pulls wire/cable and makes terminations to complete electrical installations in a workmanlike manner.
• Installs and removes hold cards to de-energize, isolate and clear electrical systems operating at 600 volts or less as necessary to protect equipment and personnel.

• Is responsible for the custody and care of all tools and equipment used in performing electrical mechanic work.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Typical duties involve exposure to industrial equipment or operations including working near operating mechanical equipment and loud noise. Duties may also involve working in close proximity to or in conjunction with construction activities. Work may be performed in a variety of weather conditions and may involve working in confined spaces or at heights. Duties could include contact with hazardous or toxic materials and exposure to noxious odors.

• Considerable knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures of the electrical trade.
• Considerable knowledge of the national electrical code and other relevant codes and regulations.
• Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the work.
• Skill in the use and care of the equipment and tools of the trade.
• Ability to plan, lay out, install and repair wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus and control equipment.
• Ability to make electrical repairs to motor vehicles.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Graduation from a standard senior high school or the equivalent and completion of an approved apprentice training program for Electrical Mechanics, or an equivalent combination of experience and training totaling five years.

Additional experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
